A simple, contemporary, soft scheme designed to link a stable yard conversion to its rural surroundings.
Rae's client approached her to develop the scheme for this garden from the concept design previously produced by Anthony Paul. Conceiving and realising the extensive and detailed planting design was her main challenge. 'Making the correct plant choices was crucial,' she says. 'I wanted to create a robust palette using low-maintenance plants that would suit the soil and also the style of the garden.'
Alongside revised aspects of the garden layout Rae drew up the planting design which was installed with the final details, working closely with the landscape contractor.
The resulting scheme merges simplicity and evergreen structure around the former dairy buildings and internal courtyard with softer drifts of grasses and perennials connecting to the far reaching natural landscape beyond.
